The Music Room at Champs Hill is one of the best-kept secrets of the West Sussex countryside.
The private 160-seat concert hall was built by retired farmer and music fan David Bowerman and his wife Mary in the back yard of their West Sussex bungalow. The hall was built as a way to present classical music to the people of Sussex and to give young artists the chance to play in public and runs alongside Bowerman’s own independent record label Champs Hill Records.
Over the last 10 years, The Music Room has become a venue of choice for recitals and chamber music, both live and for recordings. Big names from the world of classical and chamber music have performed at the hall including Dame Felicity Lott, Julian Lloyd Webber, Sir Thomas Allen, Ian Bostridge, Simon Keenlyside, Viktoria Mullova, Stephen Isserlis, Simon Callow and the English Chamber Orchestra to name but a few. It is also one of the main venues for the world renowned Petworth Summer Festival.
