Discover the unique local history of Petworth during the Heritage Weekend on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd. Historic venues in and round the town will open their doors, free of charge, to celebrate their heritage.
Petworth Cottage Museum - 12noon - 4.30pm
The range is lit, the table is laid for tea, the kettle is boiling. It’s not really a museum but a house that has been restored, redecorated, furnished and equipped as if it were 1910, when it was the home of Mrs. Mary Cummings.
St Mary the Virgin Church Saturday 10am - 5pm, Sunday 1pm - 5pm
The church has its visible origins in the Medieval period, but has been much made over in the early twentieth century.
Coultershaw Heritage Site 11am - 5pm
Coultershaw has been the site of an old flour mill since the 11th Century. In 1782 a Beam Pump was installed to pump water up to Petworth and was in operation until the early 1960’s. Coultershaw was important to the rural economy of the area because of the various transport connections.
Burton Mill 11am - 4pm
The millstone will once again be turning at Burton Mill. Come and see water powered flour milling and power generation . Burton Mill dates from 1790 and milled flour up to the 1940’s. All is once again working and producing flour for sale in our local shops.
Petworth House and Park - 10am - 5pm
With 900 years of history, home to just one family and renowned for its art collection, the magnificence of Petworth House is complemented by Capability Brow’s landscaped Deer Park.
Walking Tours of Petworth Town 11.30am, 12.30pm, 13.30pm & 14.30pm
Join a free walking tour of Petworth town to discover more about the local Heritage. Collect your ticket from the Church Lodge reception at Petworth House. Tickets allocated on the day on a first come, first served basis.
Leconfield Hall 10am - 4pm
Head to the Leconfield Hall to see a rolling slide show of historic images compiled by the Petworth Society. Browse stalls displaying historic memorabilia and relax with some light refreshments including tea and coffee.
Petworth Town Band - 2pm - 4pm
The town band will be plating selection of old favourites in Golden Square from 2pm to 4pm The band has a proud history dating back to the middle of the 19th Century and is one of the town's oldest organisations.
