SUMMARY:Eugene Onegin (The Metropolitan Opera) ROH Live
DESCRIPTION:5 MAY 2026 \n6.00pm  – 10.00pm \nPart of our 2025/26 Live Arts Series\, filmed live in front of an audience at the Royal Opera House\, streamed to our cinema screen and in full surround sound. \nAsmik Grigorian and Igor Golovatenko star in The Metropolitan Opera’s evocative production of Tchaikovsky’s romantic opera. \nTatyana spends her days lost in the world of romantic books\, while to her carefree sister Olga\, love is just a game. When Olga’s admirer\, the poet Lensky\, arrives at their country estate with the brooding Eugene Onegin\, sparks fly. Tatyana immediately falls for Onegin and declares her love for him in a letter. Lensky is outraged and challenges Onegin to a duel\, with deadly consequences. \nYears later\, Onegin and Tatyana meet again at a ball in St Petersburg. Haunted by grief and regret\, Onegin realises he has made a terrible mistake. But does Tatyana still feel the same? \nMusic: Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky \nDirector: Ted Huffman \nConductor: Henrik Nánási \nLanguage: Sung in Russian with English subtitles.

SUMMARY:Paula Rego: Visions of English Literature at Newlands House Gallery
DESCRIPTION:22 MAY – 6 SEPTEMBER 2026 \nWednesday to Saturday 10am – 5pm \nSunday 11am – 4pm \nPaula Rego: Visions of English Literature presents a major body of work by one of the most significant figurative artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Developed by Hayward Gallery Touring\, the exhibition explores Rego’s lifelong engagement with storytelling and literature through the medium of printmaking. \nOne of the great printmakers and storytellers of our time\, Paula Rego drew inspiration from a vast range of sources – from traditional folklore and fairy tales\, to literary classics and nursery rhymes. \nPaula Rego: Visions of English Literature will present three of the artist’s most ambitious and profound series of works in printmaking: Nursery Rhymes\, Peter Pan and Jane Eyre\, made across a decade of the artist’s life. Each series will be accompanied by a variety of personal items from the artist\, many of which have never been publicly displayed before. Unseen preparatory sketches\, etching plates and Rego’s very own childhood copy of Peter Pan will offer audiences an intimate portrayal of the artist’s lifelong fascination with literature and insight into how the artist transformed this material into startlingly original and unexpected pictures. \n\nBook Tickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/newlandshousegallery\n\nMore information via website: https://newlandshouse.gallery/exhibitions/paula-rego-visions-of-english-literature/
