The selection  also includes abstract works by Cornish artist Marianne Nichols and JJ Cavagnah-Butler.  For the first time\, the gallery showcases the work of David Cass which uses recycled objects to explore ideas of climate change. \nIn the garden\, work by leading British contemporary  stone carvers  Paul Vanstone\, Dominic Welch and Aly Brown –  all successful participants  at the prestigious biannual  ‘On Form’ exhibition at Astall Manor will lead the way.  Alongside these are  Will Carr’s mesmerising kinetic wind sculptures\,  Jilly Sutton’s astonishing heads carved in wood and cast in bronze and Mike Savage’s vessels of beaten copper. \nFor High Res Images to download follow this link to the drop box. For further images and information contact Elspeth Bray\, mail@moncrieff-bray.com \nTel: 07867 978 414      www.moncrieff-bray.com \n\nOPENING TIMES AND COVID SAFETY MEASURES\nFrom 30th April to 8th May: Open daily\, 10 am–4 pm:  Booking essential\nThen 9th May to 26th June :  Wednesday to Saturday\, 10 am–4 pm:  Booking essential \nFor everyone’s safety we ask that you email us to book your timed slot. SUMMARY:The Arts Society West Sussex - Turner vs Constable: The Great British Paint Off
DESCRIPTION:4 MAY 2021\n\n2.00pm – 3.00pm \n\nPRESENTED BY NICOLA MOORBY\nThe story of the epic rivalry between the two giants of British art\, JMW Turner and John Constable. As unlike in background and temperament as their paintings were in style\, these two creative geniuses transformed the art of landscape during the nineteenth century. This lecture examines their ‘signature’ paints; how they overcame the ‘technical challenge’ of sketching from nature and how their differing approaches fared in the competitive arena of the Royal Academy. \n Nicola is an independent art historian specialising in British art of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She studied at the University of York and Birkbeck College\, London. Formerly a curator at Tate Britain she has curated a number of exhibitions and has published widely on J.M.W. Turner\, including contributions to the forthcoming online catalogue of the Turner Bequest. She is also co-editor and author of How to Paint Like Turner (Tate Publishing\, 2010). \nPLEASE NOTE!\nWhilst Covid-19 restrictions are in force our Talks will be delivered via Zoom at our usual meeting time\, that is to say\, at 2:00pm on the 1st Tuesday of the Month. We will email all members with the link to join these Talks in the week before they are due to take place.
