DESCRIPTION:3 FEBRUARY – 29 MAY 2024 \nWednesday to Saturday 10am -5pm \nSunday 11am – 4pm \nThe Day May Break + SINK / RISE by photographer Nick Brandt is an ongoing global series portraying people and animals that have been impacted by environmental degradation and destruction. \nChapter One was photographed in Zimbabwe and Kenya in 2020\, \nChapter Two in Bolivia in 2022. SINK / RISE\, Chapter Three was photographed in Fiji in 2023. \nThe people in the photos have all been badly affected by climate change\, from extreme droughts to floods that destroyed their homes and livelihoods. \nSINK / RISE is the third chapter of The Day May Break\, an ongoing global series portraying people and animals that have been impacted by environmental degradation and destruction. \nThis third chapter focuses on South Pacific Islanders impacted by rising oceans from climate change. \nThe local people in these photos\, photographed underwater in the ocean off the coast of the Fijian islands\, are representatives of the many people whose homes\, land and livelihoods will be lost in the coming decades as the water rises. \nEverything is shot in-camera underwater.

SUMMARY:Recent Acquisitions Spring at Rountree Tryon Gallery
DESCRIPTION:21 MARCH – 13 APRIL 2024 \nMonday – closed (by appointment only) \nTuesday – Friday\, 10am-5pm \nSaturday – 11am – 4pm during exhibitions (otherwise by appointment only) \nThis exhibition features recently acquired works from across the gallery’s Sporting\, Wildlife and Maritime specialisms. \nMaritime highlights include a painting of The Battle of Tobago Bay in 1677 by Dutch artist Jan Karel Donatus Van Beecq (1638-1722)\, thought to be among the earliest depictions of the island. Also of historical and topographical significance\, is a naval engagement by prominent painter of the Napoleonic period Thomas Whitcombe (1752-1824)\, which documents the British raid on Saint Paul\, Reunion\, in the Indian Ocean in 1809. \nThe equestrian section is led by a major commission Sir Alfred James Munnings (1878-1959) completed for Baron Mildmay of Flete\, capturing his son on the horse Davy Jones before the 1936 Grand National. The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1938 and is reappearing on the market for the first time since 1999. Other sporting subjects include an intruiging painting by John Frederick Herring Snr. (1795-1865) of sportsman and eccentric George Osbaldeston driving the American trotter Rattler\, and a canvas by Susan Crawford (B. 1941) of 1986 horse of the year Dancing Brave with jockey Pat Eddery up. \nForming part of the ornithological works on offer is a beautifully observed eagle nest by Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935) and a delicate study of an Ibis by Ray Harris Ching (B. 1939).

Join experts and specialists including author Robyn Booth\, and Curator of Munstead Wood\, Caroline Ikin share tips on Spring gardening\, and discuss the ‘artist-gardener’ Gertrude Jekyll. Free talks\, no booking required. \nThroughout the festival from 23 March – 14 April families can pick up a free trail to explore the Pleasure Garden and discover 6 nature-inspired willow sculptures while enjoying fun games and activities along the way. \nFrom 3-10 April families can enjoy the Easter holidays with Spring themed crafts in the Battery House studio. DESCRIPTION:Every Friday  \n10.00am – 11.00am \nEvent details: \n\n\n 	‘Buggy Walk’ is open to all parents/carers of babies & young children in prams\, buggies and carriers (plus older children are welcome to join the walk too!).\n 	Meet at the pavilion on Friday mornings at 9.45am for a 10am buggy friendly circular walk around Petworth Park beginning and ending at Petworth Park Sports pavilion (A buggy-friendly route is suggested which takes approx 45 mins to 1 hour).\n 	The activity is FREE for PPS members\, or join up for as little as £5 annual membership fee.\n 	Group will run all through school holidays and term time and is a great way to active in the fresh air and meet new people in a welcoming and friendly environment.\n 	No pre-booking required.\n\nThe group is a great way for baby to get fresh air within local surroundings\, whilst parents and carers have an opportunity for some gentle exercise and to meet others with similar aged children in a relaxed\, social environment.\nWe would recommend that participants wear comfortable footwear\, bring appropriate clothing for changeable weather\, plus a water bottle and that at least one of the group carry a fully charged mobile phone and map showing the route. There are toilets\, baby change facilities and a coffee bar at the PPS pavilion\, at the beginning and end of the walk. The pavilion is open from 9am to 12pm every Friday morning serving great coffee\, and a range of other hot and cold drinks and snacks. In the event of a Buggy Walk being cancelled due to bad weather\, the group may still enjoy a meet up in the pavilion and make use of the pavilion facilities. \nWalking can improve wellbeing and promote good mental health and hopefully the more relaxed parents are\, the more relaxed their baby will be too. During the walks the potential for new friendships are also being forged\, which is particularly beneficial for parents of similarly aged children to their own. Developing supportive social networks with one another can help them cope with the challenges of parenting. \nThe aim of Buggy Walk is to help parents and carers of new babies and young children to get more active\, enjoy some fresh air in a supportive and social environment\, feel fitter\, feel more energised\, reduce stress\, manage weight\, reduce isolation and have fun. The Buggy Walks are available to all\, regardless of fitness levels. \nPlease share with family and friends. No need to pre-book\, just turn up! New members can be signed up on the day.

However\, don’t get too alarmed\, I will be ensuring they don’t go too far off piste\, and we will still make it back to the brewery in time for lunch.\nBefore we set off we will be getting our bearings and talking a little about local geography and maps. Each child will then hopefully have the opportunity to lead a section of the walk\, with guidance. However\, everyone has a role to play on this walk as we’ll be creating maps from what we observe along the way. In today’s world\, where tech rules\, we have all lost our internal compass. This walk hopes to redress the balance a little by helping the children become more aware of their surroundings and direction. Along the way\, there will also be things to find and learn about the local area. Perhaps the adults will learn something too!
