SUMMARY:Summer Exhibition at Moncrieff Bray Gallery
DESCRIPTION:13 MAY – 23 JUNE 2023 \n\n\nOPENING WEEKEND\n\nFriday 6th May ~ 10am to 4 pm \nSaturday 7th May ~ 10am to 6.30 pm \nSunday 8th May ~ 10am to 6.30 pm \n\n\n\n\nOPEN THEREAFTER\n\nWednesday to Saturday \n10am to 4pm \nWe are always happy to see visitors by appointment \n\n\n\n40 artists and sculptors\, selected from Land’s End to Ullapool \nThe Moncrieff-Bray Gallery presents it’s Summer Exhibition in a converted barn and landscaped gardens with stunning views over the Rother Valley. Over 40 artists and sculptors are drawn from all corners of the British Isles. The work is selected with a commitment to quality\, integrity and originality from established and emerging artists alike. This is a wonderful opportunity to see a range of outstanding contemporary British sculpture in the heart of the South Downs National Park. There are small-scale intimate works for interiors as well as stunning large pieces for the garden. Established 18 years ago\, the Summer Exhibition has become a highlight in the West Sussex art calendar. \nWe are absolutely delighted to be exhibiting an important group of works by Jill Berelowitz\, one of Britain’s most exciting contemporary sculptors\, including her Diver. The Diver has evolved from Jill’s Diving Girl commissioned for the Olympic Village in 2012.  Also on show are the maquettes for her 3.1 metre-high Emergence figures.  Born in South Africa\, the influence of tribal African art is reflected in her portrayal of the human form. Another central theme in Jill’s work is the tree. Her tree sculptures reflect the rhythm of nature and the cycle of life. The life-size Tree of Cherished Memories was commissioned last year  for the National Arboretum and two of her tree sculptures are included in the show. \nAlso exhibiting in Sussex for the first time are Lucy Lutyens\, Benjamin Lowsley-Williams and Gabriel Risso. Living on a medieval farm which has been in the family for generations\, Lucy’s abstract forms reflect the shapes and objects of her rural environment\, in particular iron and bronze age settlements.  Benji Lowsley-Willliams work also references humanity’s long history and the inherent properties of stone\, which he transforms from a state of rawness to a finely honed and polished art form. Gabriel Risso’s wall reliefs are mesmerising in their sense of stillness and balance and nod to the paintings of his Italian compatriot\, Morandi\, \nWe are also showcasing work by many other leading British contemporary stone carvers\, among them: Jonathan Loxley\, Paul Vanstone\, Dominic Welch\, Aly Brown and Jason Mulligan. Complementing these pieces are Jeremy Moulsdale’s fluid figures which echo the relationship between man and the elements\, Olivia Ferrier’s exquisite birds cast from found objects and Will Carr’s mesmeric kinetic works. \nWithin the gallery is a veritable treasure trove of paintings and smaller scale sculpture. The brilliant work of Scottish Colourists Jean B Martin and Ann Oram are complimented by the dynamic abstract landscapes of the South Downs by John Hitchens. Oona Campbell has created a group of new landscapes with her dramatic skies and Sussex artist Lucy Powell returns from a trip to Southern Italy with lyrical landscapes alongside her domestic still-lives. Exhibiting for the first time is Samantha Rudd whose muted palette and portrayal of the English countryside combine the nostalgia of the British Romantics with a refreshing modern take.  Sarah Bowman exhibits her luscious garden paintings. We are also delighted to have new work by some or our gallery favourites\, Jemma Powell\, Vivienne Williams\, Jo Aylward and St Ives artists Liz Hough\, Gareth Edwards and Rachel Reeves. \nThis is an exhibition which celebrates many of the finest aspects of contemporary British art\, which combined with its spectacular rural setting\, only five minutes from the antique and artistic hub of Petworth\, make it a unique destination. A gallery of West End quality in the heart of rural Sussex

SUMMARY:The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair
DESCRIPTION:19–21 May 2023 \nFriday 11.00–18.00 | Saturday 10.30–18.00 | Sunday 10.30–17.00 \nFollowing eight successful years in Petworth Park\, the fair is scheduled to return 19-21 May 2023. The famous National Trust property in the picturesque market town of Petworth has proved an ideal venue\, attracting thousands of eager visitors. In its spacious marquee\, the Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair has around 60 exhibitors\, predominantly members of The British Antique Dealers’ Association and LAPADA The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers. They offer for sale a wide range of desirable items from furniture\, jewellery\, sculpture\, glass\, lighting\, photography\, vintage watches and silver to paintings\, drawings\, ceramics\, clocks\, 20th century design objects\, maps\, prints\, oriental carpets\, tribal art\, historical medals\, aeronautica\, garden ornaments and many other decorative and unique works of art spanning the centuries. \nWe are very happy to again work with The National Trust at Petworth House as well as with the local dealer association PAADA and the Petworth Business Association\, creating yet another exciting event. The grand 17th century house boasts an internationally important art collection\, and together with its ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped country park\, it provides a magnificent backdrop for our annual fair. \nThe fair has its own free car park by the marquee – access is from the A272 Tillington Road through the gate at New Lodges. The AA signs will direct traffic to this entrance and not to the main car park on the A283\, where there is a charge of £4 for non-National Trust members. Disabled parking close to the fair entrance. The pedestrian entrance is via the Cricket Lodge gate\, also on the A272\, or via the Cowyard. \nFair visitors enjoy free access to Petworth House during the three day event. National Trust members and Petworth House ticket holders may attend the antiques fair free of charge. \nLight refreshments are available outside the marquee and a fuller offering is provided in the restaurant inside the fair. \nDogs that can be carried and guide/assistance dogs are welcome. \nFor local information\, including details of hotels\, restaurants and things to do\, please visit www.discoverpetworth.uk

SUMMARY:The Sleeping Beauty (The Royal Ballet) ROH Live
DESCRIPTION:24 MAY 2023 \n9.15pm – 11.00pm \n\nLive Broadcast: Part of our 2022/23 Live Arts Series\, streamed simultaneously from the Royal Opera House to our cinema screen and in full surround sound.\nMagic and fairytale characters are brought to life through ballet in this well-known family favourite.\nThe Sleeping Beauty holds a very special place in The Royal Ballet’s heart and history. It was the first performance given by the Company when the Royal Opera House reopened at Covent Garden in 1946 after World War II. In 2006\, this original staging was revived and has been delighting audiences ever since. Frederick Ashton famously cited the pure classicism of Marius Petipa’s 19th-century ballet as a private lesson in the atmospheric art and craft of choreography. Be swept away by Tchaikovsky’s ravishing music and Oliver Messel’s sumptuous fairytale designs with this true gem from the classical ballet repertory.\nOrchestra of the Royal Opera House – conducted by Koen Kessels\nCast: TBC\nCredits:-\nMusic: Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky\nChoreography: Marius Petipa\nDoors: 6.30pm\nPerformance: 7.15pm\nDoors open 45 minutes before performance starts.
