SUMMARY:Manon (The Royal Ballet) ROH Encore
DESCRIPTION:11 FEBRUARY 2024 \n2.00pm – 5.15pm \nEncore Broadcast of ROH Ballet recorded at the Royal Opera House: Part of our 2023/24 Live Arts Series\, streamed to our cinema screen and in full surround sound. \nThis adaptation of Abbé Prévost’s novel embodies Kenneth MacMillan at his best\, his acute insight into human psychology and his mastery of narrative choreography finding full expression in the impassioned duets of the central couple\, visceral and urgent in their desire. The heroine’s struggle to escape poverty make Manon one of the most dramatic and devastating of ballets\, emphasized by Nicholas Georgiadis’ evocative designs that reflect the juxtaposition between Manon’s impoverished origins and the lavish world she longs to inhabit. The 2023/24 Season celebrates the centenary of Nicholas Georgiadis. \nOrchestra of the Royal Opera House – conducted by Koen Kessels \nMusic: Jules Massenet \nChoreography: Kenneth Macmillan \nCast: Natalia Osipova\, Reece Clarke

SUMMARY:Peter Beckingham – Sussex Showcase 2000 Years of Great Art from Bignor to Brighton at Newlands House Gallery
DESCRIPTION:15 FEBRUARY 2024 \n6.00pm – 10.00pm \nFollowing his sold-out talk at the Petworth Literary Festival\, join us on Thursday 15th February for drinks and a talk by Peter Beckingham at Newlands House Gallery \n\n\nLodsworth-based Peter Beckingham steers us through 2000 years of great art in the county\, from the beautifully preserved mosaics at Bignor and Fishbourne and Medieval frescoes in tiny South Downs churches to the colourful paintings of Charleston-based artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. Also describing the influence of Sussex on two of Britain’s greatest artists\, Constable and Turner\, Peter Beckingham also considers the impact of the county on famous 20th-century painters such as Paul Nash and Eric Ravilious. An essential insight for any resident or visitor interested in the county’s major contribution to British art. \n“a gem\, well–researched\, beautifully illustrated and hugely informative”

The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1938 and is reappearing on the market for the first time since 1999. (1795-1865) of sportsman and eccentric George Osbaldeston driving the American trotter Rattler\, and a canvas by Susan Crawford (B. 1941) of 1986 horse of the year Dancing Brave with jockey Pat Eddery up. \nForming part of the ornithological works on offer is a beautifully observed eagle nest by Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935) and a delicate study of an Ibis by Ray Harris Ching (B. 1939).
