Alec invented the technique in the 1980s at Leicester University\, which went on to revolutionise the way crimes were solved worldwide.\nThe talk describes the first case solved using DNA FINGERPRINTING\, a double murder in a village near Leicester. It explains how the technique works and then describes how it has been used. Famous cases include THE KING IN THE CAR PARK\, how the bones were proved to be King Richard III. It also explains how the remains of the last Russian Royal family were verified – using a DNA sample from Prince Philip. It finishes by explaining its use in family history\, using examples from my own family tree. The talk is richly illustrated with colourful\, easy-to-read\, slides.\nDr Ian Goodall is a professional speaker who has raised thousands of pounds for local charities. Be inspired by existing projects to consider establishing your own community or school garden using simple permaculture ethics and principles. \nWhat the day’s course will cover. \nThe course will start with a talk and walk around Petworth’s Community Wellbeing Garden\, a thriving Social and Therapeutic Horticulture community garden designed and run by the tutor for over twenty years. \nThrough a mixture of classroom-based\, interactive\, and outdoor sessions\, you will explore permaculture principles\, ethics and a design framework which can be tailored to work with any project. \nDuring the day\, there will be a practical session demonstrating organic gardening methods. \nResources around health and safety\, legal requirements\, training\, and fundraising will be discussed and shared. This will be an opportunity to ask questions about developing your own project with practical advice\, tools and feedback tailored to inspire and breathe life into your community project. \nOver the last 20 years\, the tutor has designed and implemented three community gardens\, three school garden projects\, two elderly-care gardens and a market garden\, amongst other designs\, and given advice on many others. \nEach has been developed and designed using permaculture ethics and principles\, yet each one is different and appropriate to the needs of the community there. \nWhether you are just starting to think about a community project or are further along the journey\, this course will give you the tools to starts to create a realistic plan to bring your ideas to fruition.

DESCRIPTION:26 SEPTEMBER 2026 \n10.00am – 4.00pm \nJoin us in the green and tranquil setting of the Community Wellbeing Garden in Petworth for this one-day workshop exploring the principles of low-carbon\, organic gardening and how you can apply these in your garden or allotment to reduce the impact of the changing climate. \nThe workshop is led by Kate Green\, founder of the Community Wellbeing Garden and qualified permaculture practitioner\, with over 20+ years of experience in horticulture and permaculture. \nAll tools and gardening items will be provided\, along with tea\, coffee and cake.   Participants are asked to kindly bring their own lunch to suit their own dietary requirements. \nWhat the day’s course will cover. \nLearn how to use organic and permaculture principles to design and manage balanced and vibrant food-producing gardens. By taking inspiration from nature\, looking after the soil\, growing your own and working with wildlife\, we can reduce our carbon usage\, actively help to absorb carbon and create beautiful\, productive and climate-resilient gardens. \nThe morning will start with an overview of organic and permaculture principles\, illustrated by a range of organic fruit and vegetable gardens designed by the tutor.  After a short tea break\, we will explore Petworth’s Community Wellbeing Garden\, where these techniques can be seen throughout the project. We will further explore simple techniques that can be used in any garden space to reduce carbon usage\, and create balance to better manage changing weather patterns. \nAfter lunch\, we will have an outside demonstration and practical session\, practising some of the techniques\, and the final afternoon session will be spent focusing on participants’ questions and exploring any topics requested in further detail\, including options for slug management\, composting and mulching.

DESCRIPTION:16 OCTOBER 2026 \n7.45pm – 10.00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“English exquisita from East Anglia\, ornamental and elegant” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHoney & the Bear have been a tour de force on the UK Folk Festival circuit in recent years. The British folk and roots duo combine delicately interweaving vocal harmonies with emotive and evocative songwriting. With a diverse range of sounds and textures\, and rhythms that flow from the fast and furious to gentle ballads\, their live performances are spirited and dynamic. \nConjuring stories in song\, they have been enchanting audiences up and down the country with tales of Suffolk folklore\, courageous people they admire and their passion for nature.The multi-instrumentalist\, husband and wife team comprised of songwriters Jon Hart (guitar\, bass\, bouzouki) and Lucy Hart (guitar\, ukulele\, bass\, banjo\, mandolin & percussion)\, and will be joined by band guests Evan Carson (percussion)\, Toby Shaer (Fiddle/Flutes/Whistles) and Archie Churchill-Moss (diatonic button accordion). \nTogether they have played at many revered venues and festivals across the UK and most recently\, the duo sang live on the BBC Radio 3’s In Tune programme in December 2025. They are currently touring their fourth studio album which was released in April 2026.
