SUMMARY:Petworth Fringe Comedy - Mike Gunn\, Mark Maier\, David Eagle & Dinesh Nathan
DESCRIPTION:5 MAY 2022 \n8.00pm – 10.30pm \nMike Gunn’s history is as interesting and entertaining as his comedy. A mis-spent youth and a series of grim jobs cultivated \nhis cynical outlook on life and a perverse desire led him to the world of stand-up. A self-confessed pessimist\, he describes himself as “not a natural \nchoice for a career in laughter”. He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likeable and \nfunny. His reputation for being a bit unfriendly\, a touch dark and even morose is really not true. In real life he’s loving\, warm and philanthropic. Just a bit misunderstood. \n“One of the 10 leading stand-ups in Britain” – Independent on Sunday \n“Mike Gunn will make you die laughing” – The Guardian \nFinalist of the British Comedian of the Year Mark Maier is an established and highly sought after performer on \nstyle=”white-space: pre-wrap;”>both the national and international comedy circuits. Mark has also appeared in Harry Hill The Movie and in various cameo roles in the series Harry Hill’s Tea Time. He has also taught and performed improvisation with Catherine Tate in London and has had a \nstring of successful radio series as both writer and performer. \nDavid Eagle is perhaps our first comedian who would be equally at home in the Comedy and Music Sessions. As well as winning \nstyle=”white-space: pre-wrap;”>several New Comedian Of The Year awards (Leicester Square Theatre 2019\, Bath Comedy Festival 2019\, Nottingham Comedy Festival 2018)\, he is also a member of three-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning band The Young’uns. \nDinesh Nathan is a hilarious British Sri Lankan comedian\, who\, after a performing stint at the age of eight\, as Willy Wonka in \nCharlie and the Chocolate Factory\, has returned to the stage 20 years later. He won South Coast Comedian Of The Year 2019 and was a finalist at the \nKomedia New Act Competition 2020 and the coveted Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year competition. Described as a “mix of high-spirited delivery with a \nsarcastic\, self-deprecating viewpoint”\, he was named “one to watch” by Brighton Fringe Review.

SUMMARY:Summer Exhibition: Painting and Sculpture at Moncrieff Bray Gallery
DESCRIPTION:6 MAY – 13 AUGUST 2022 \nWe have extended the Summer Exhibition until the 13th August and the gallery is open every Friday and Saturday until then. Our opening times are 10-4pm and at other times by appointment.  \n50 artists and sculptors selected from Land’s End to Ullapool.  \nNew work by some of our best-loved artists are shown alongside exciting new talents throughout the gallery and blossoming landscaped gardens. \nThe Moncrieff-Bray Gallery presents its Summer Exhibition which takes place in our converted barn and landscaped gardens with stunning views over the Rother Valley. Over 50 artists and sculptors are drawn from all corners of the British Isles. The work is selected with a commitment to quality\, integrity and originality from established and emerging artists alike. Sculpture ranges from small-scale intimate works for interiors to stunning large pieces for the garden. Established 17 years ago\, the Summer Exhibition has become a highlight in the West Sussex art calendar. \nNew work by some of our best-loved artists such as John Hitchens\, Jilly Sutton and Oona Campbell\, are shown alongside exciting new talent\, including Michael Chaikin’s giant articulated fish which ‘swim’  in the wind\, and Jeremy Moulsdale’s lyrical figures. \nWe are proud to show work by many leading British contemporary stone carvers\, among them: Jonathan Loxley\, Paul Vanstone\, Dominic Welch\, Guy Stevens\, Aly Brown and Tim Pomeroy. Complementing these pieces are Mike Savage’s organic pod forms in beaten copper\, Jilly Sutton’s striking carved wooden heads\, and kinetic works by Will Carr and Michael Chaikin. \nWithin the gallery\, vibrant work by Scottish Colourists Jean B Martin and Ann Oram are complimented by sweeping landscapes of the South Downs by Rosie Copeland and Lucy Marks. Gareth Edward’s elegiac abstract landscape is contrasted with the dynamic abstraction of Spencer Shakespeare and Malcom Taylor. \nThis is an exhibition which celebrates many of the finest aspects of contemporary British art. This\, combined with its spectacular rural setting\, only five minutes from the antique and artistic hub of Petworth\, make it a unique destination.

SUMMARY:My Girl The River\, Kate Ellis & Anna Howie | The ARC Songwriters
DESCRIPTION:20 MAY 2022 \n8.00pm – 10.30pm \nThe ARC is a unique songwriters’ tour featuring My Girl The River\, Kate Ellis and Anna Howie.  These two American and one English songwriter will be performing together and separately in the round. Expect stories\, beautiful harmonies and an intimate atmosphere you won’t want to miss. Sing-a-longs\, laughter\, tears\, and thoughtful moments will have you leaving with a song in your heart.  \nMy Girl The River \nMy Girl The River is the work of Kris Wilkinson Hughes. Hailing from southern Louisiana and after spending many years in Nashville\, Kris relocated to the UK\, bringing her incredibly rich ‘sugared espresso’ vocals to her memorable songwriting style.  \nCritics have compared Kris to Lucinda Williams and Jason Isbell\, although I can also hear Dusty Springfield in the way Kris weaves a rich tapestry of words and melodies\, bringing the listener into a world of different emotions.  \nAmericana UK gave her latest album Cardinal in the Snow an 8/10 calling it ‘Nashville meets southern gothic’. A new album is also in the works and will be available this coming Spring. \nKate EllisKate Ellis’s southern country-folk roots come from her father who was an important early musical influence – he once played guitar with Hank Williams on the famous Louisiana Hayride\, where Elvis and Johnny Cash started out. Kate’s emotional and seductive vocals take you into a world of private beauty\, reflection and feelings.  \n\n\n\n\nThe music is always intimate and evocative – you listen and want to be there. “I hope that whatever people get from the music\, they’ll be moved. I hope that they’ll find something that is beautiful and truthful. I don’t think that you can connect with any real emotion without truth.”\nHer new album\, Spirals\, which will also be released in Spring of 2022\, has already turned heads with three wonderful singles. \nAnna Howie Anna Howie is the British writer joining these two Americans\, with a delicate voice that is able to really grab your full attention.\nWith a writing style crafted from study with the likes of Gretchen Peters\, Anna truly gets to the heart of the matter. And… her first EP\, An Idiot’s Guide To Love\, went to No 5 in the UK Country charts. \nAnna’s newest album\, The Friday Night Club\, will be released in March. It was produced by Lukas Drinkwater and features myriad instruments and harmonies. From laughing to crying\, Anna’s songs are as instantly relatable as they are memorable. \nDuring lockdown Anna also reached 2 million people by streaming every Friday night on Facebook. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:15PM \nStarts at 8:00PM \nLocation \n\n\n\nLeconfield Hall\, Petworth\, West Sussex\, GU28 0AH
