SUMMARY:Jill Bray: Earth Lines. A Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:15 -31 JULY 2021 \n10.00am – 5.00pm \nPrintmaker and painter Jill Bray (b. 1936) has over the past four decades created an extensive and unique body of work inspired by her abiding interest in the landscape. Bray studied art first at Bishop Otter College\, Chichester and then at Southampton College of Art where she was influenced by the work of Peter Lanyon\, Graham Sutherland\, and Ivon Hitchens. \n\n\n\n\nBray exhibited in numerous shows in the UK and overseas\, was a member of Printmaker’s Council\, and has work is in several public collections. Yet she has remained overlooked compared to some of her contemporaries working in a similar vein. This retrospective exhibition attempts to redress that situation. 50 paintings\, prints and collages from 1979 to 2019 will be on display and for sale.\nThis exhibition is part of the Petworth Festival programme\, and is accompanied by a talk on 15 July by Dr. Gill Clarke about the remarkable collection of Modern British art held by Chichester University: “The Bishop Otter Art Collection: The Vision Of Two Remarkable Women”.

SUMMARY:Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf (Documentary)
DESCRIPTION:9 SEPTEMBER 2021 \n7.30pm – 9.30pm \nIn partnership with Petworth Gardeners Club\, Petworth Film House presents: Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf. An immersive documentary that reveals how revolutionary landscape designer\, Piet Oudolf\, upends our conventional notions of nature\, public space\, and\, ultimately\, beauty itself.\n“For me\, garden design isn’t just about plants\, it is about emotion\, atmosphere\, a sense of contemplation. You try to move people with what you do. You look at this\, and it goes deeper than what you see. It reminds you of something in the genes — nature\, or the longing for nature.” – Piet Oudolf\nDirector Thomas Piper filmed the garden designer Piet Oudolf over five seasons as he designed gardens from New York’s High Line and Hauser and Wirth’s prairie garden in Somerset\, England to his own private garden at Hummelo in Holland. \nRunning time: 1hr 15mins \nCertificate: U \nDoors: 7pm \nFilm: 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Mandy Shepherd at Rountree Tryon Gallery
DESCRIPTION:23 SEPTEMBER – 9 OCTOBER 2021 \nMonday – Friday 10am – 6pm \nSaturdays 11am – 4pm \nMandy’s art education began at the Byam Shaw\, London\, followed by three years at Brighton to complete an honours degree in Fine Art and Illustration. She travelled to Africa to work initially in Zambia in South Luangwa\, in Zimbabwe working in an advertising agency\, and then gaining valuable experience learning about South African artists with a highly successful gallery in Johannesburg. She was also establishing her own painting style and returned to Zambia for her first one woman show. \nShe returned to London in 1982 to join a shared studio for a short while before moving to Chichester which has been her home since 1985. \nWildlife took her to the Falkland Islands in 1996 when researching for her first book opened the door to a new world of military subjects from which she has never looked back. Commissions came from the Parachute regiment\, Royal Artillery\, Royal Airforce of Oman\, The Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy. She went on to work for the Special Forces recording international active deployment and has travelled widely to Brunei\, Kosovo\, Afghanistan and Iraq. \nHer portfolio includes subjects both wildlife and domestic\, military and portraiture. Her success has come from her open enthusiasm to paint all things in fine detail and this attention to accuracy is complimented by an interpretation of subject material painting with any water soluble medium which is unique to Mandy. \nHer ‘other ‘ life is her lifelong commitment to Wildlife Conservation and she supports the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation through her Art and taking safaris worldwide.
