SUMMARY:Martin Turner (ex Wishbone Ash): Petworth
DESCRIPTION:17 SEPTEMBER 2022 \n7.30pm – 10.30pm \nMartin Turner and his band return to the concert stages in 2022 to perform two vintage Wishbone Ash album in their entirety – 1972’s Argus (celebrating the album’s 50th anniversary) and 1973’s Wishbone Four.\nWishbone Ash was formed by West Country musicians Martin Turner and Steve Upton\, who arrived in London in 1969 to embark on their musical journey. Intent on creating a musical sound that was rich in texture and melody\, Martin Turner envisaged the band’s innovative harmony-guitar hallmark and guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell were recruited via a now legendary Melody Maker advert. The partnership of the original line-up of Wishbone Ash forged a unique musical identity that would produce some of rock music’s best loved works and influencing numerous successful bands\, resulting in millions of album sales and concert attendances. Wishbone Ash would become one of the most enduring British rock acts – its name synonymous with high quality guitar-driven melodic rock music. \nFive decades later\, the music of the classic line-ups of Wishbone Ash continues to delight audiences worldwide through both live performances and a rich legacy of recorded work that continues to be enjoyed by fans old and new. Classic album releases such as Wishbone Ash\, Argus\, Pilgrimage\, Wishbone Four\, There’s the Rub\, New England and Live Dates defined the Wishbone Ash sound and have touched the hearts of several generations of music fans. As lead vocalist\, bassist and key creative force\, founding original member Martin Turner was central to the critical and commercial success of Wishbone Ash’s most revered albums\, with his passionate vocal delivery\, songwriting ability\, keen melodic sense and production values being major ingredients in the definitive Wishbone Ash sound. Martin Turner continues to delight audiences with performances of the band’s best loved works with his current line-up\, which features guitarists Danny Willson and Misha Nikolic\, and drummer Tim Brown. \nThe 2022 tour will see Martin and his band performing two vintage albums back to back in addition to other Wishbone Ash classics. \nFeaturing epic tracks such as “The King Will Come”\, “Warrior” and “Throw Down the Sword”\, Wishbone Ash’s seminal 1972 Argus album achieved a #2 UK album chart position and won UK music press “Album of The Year” awards. On its 50th anniversary\, Argus remains one of the most enduring works of the classic rock era. \n1973’s Wishbone Four album explored fresh territory and contained shorter songs\, a strong folk influence on several tracks\, a harder rock sound on others and included stage favourites “Doctor”\, “Rock n Roll Widow” and “No Easy Road” alongside deep cuts such as “Everybody Needs a Friend” and “Sorrel”. Wishbone Four reached #12 in the UK. The 2022 tour marks the first time the album has been played live in its entirety. \nThis double bill of vintage Wishbone Ash albums is an event that no Wishbone Ash aficionado will want to miss.

SUMMARY:My Girl The River\, Kate Ellis & Anna Howie | The ARC Songwriters
DESCRIPTION:20 MAY 2022 \n8.00pm – 10.30pm \nThe ARC is a unique songwriters’ tour featuring My Girl The River\, Kate Ellis and Anna Howie.  These two American and one English songwriter will be performing together and separately in the round. Expect stories\, beautiful harmonies and an intimate atmosphere you won’t want to miss. Sing-a-longs\, laughter\, tears\, and thoughtful moments will have you leaving with a song in your heart.  \nMy Girl The River \nMy Girl The River is the work of Kris Wilkinson Hughes. Hailing from southern Louisiana and after spending many years in Nashville\, Kris relocated to the UK\, bringing her incredibly rich ‘sugared espresso’ vocals to her memorable songwriting style.  \nCritics have compared Kris to Lucinda Williams and Jason Isbell\, although I can also hear Dusty Springfield in the way Kris weaves a rich tapestry of words and melodies\, bringing the listener into a world of different emotions.  \nAmericana UK gave her latest album Cardinal in the Snow an 8/10 calling it ‘Nashville meets southern gothic’. A new album is also in the works and will be available this coming Spring. \nKate EllisKate Ellis’s southern country-folk roots come from her father who was an important early musical influence – he once played guitar with Hank Williams on the famous Louisiana Hayride\, where Elvis and Johnny Cash started out. Kate’s emotional and seductive vocals take you into a world of private beauty\, reflection and feelings.  \n\n\n\n\nThe music is always intimate and evocative – you listen and want to be there. “I hope that whatever people get from the music\, they’ll be moved. I hope that they’ll find something that is beautiful and truthful. I don’t think that you can connect with any real emotion without truth.”\nHer new album\, Spirals\, which will also be released in Spring of 2022\, has already turned heads with three wonderful singles. \nAnna Howie Anna Howie is the British writer joining these two Americans\, with a delicate voice that is able to really grab your full attention.\nWith a writing style crafted from study with the likes of Gretchen Peters\, Anna truly gets to the heart of the matter. And… her first EP\, An Idiot’s Guide To Love\, went to No 5 in the UK Country charts. \nAnna’s newest album\, The Friday Night Club\, will be released in March. It was produced by Lukas Drinkwater and features myriad instruments and harmonies. From laughing to crying\, Anna’s songs are as instantly relatable as they are memorable. \nDuring lockdown Anna also reached 2 million people by streaming every Friday night on Facebook. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDoors Open at 7:15PM \nStarts at 8:00PM \nLocation \n\n\n\nLeconfield Hall\, Petworth\, West Sussex\, GU28 0AH

SUMMARY:Petworth Fringe Comedy - Mike Gunn\, Mark Maier\, David Eagle & Dinesh Nathan
DESCRIPTION:5 MAY 2022 \n8.00pm – 10.30pm \nMike Gunn’s history is as interesting and entertaining as his comedy. A mis-spent youth and a series of grim jobs cultivated \nhis cynical outlook on life and a perverse desire led him to the world of stand-up. A self-confessed pessimist\, he describes himself as “not a natural \nchoice for a career in laughter”. He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likeable and \nfunny. His reputation for being a bit unfriendly\, a touch dark and even morose is really not true. In real life he’s loving\, warm and philanthropic. Just a bit misunderstood. \n“One of the 10 leading stand-ups in Britain” – Independent on Sunday \n“Mike Gunn will make you die laughing” – The Guardian \nFinalist of the British Comedian of the Year Mark Maier is an established and highly sought after performer on \nstyle=”white-space: pre-wrap;”>both the national and international comedy circuits. Mark has also appeared in Harry Hill The Movie and in various cameo roles in the series Harry Hill’s Tea Time. He has also taught and performed improvisation with Catherine Tate in London and has had a \nstring of successful radio series as both writer and performer. \nDavid Eagle is perhaps our first comedian who would be equally at home in the Comedy and Music Sessions. As well as winning \nstyle=”white-space: pre-wrap;”>several New Comedian Of The Year awards (Leicester Square Theatre 2019\, Bath Comedy Festival 2019\, Nottingham Comedy Festival 2018)\, he is also a member of three-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning band The Young’uns. \nDinesh Nathan is a hilarious British Sri Lankan comedian\, who\, after a performing stint at the age of eight\, as Willy Wonka in \nCharlie and the Chocolate Factory\, has returned to the stage 20 years later. He won South Coast Comedian Of The Year 2019 and was a finalist at the \nKomedia New Act Competition 2020 and the coveted Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year competition. Described as a “mix of high-spirited delivery with a \nsarcastic\, self-deprecating viewpoint”\, he was named “one to watch” by Brighton Fringe Review.

SUMMARY:Petworth Fringe Comedy Night - Jeff Innocent\, Cally Beaton\, Joey Page & Mad Ron
DESCRIPTION:31 MARCH 2022 \n8.00pm – 10.30pm \nJeff Innocent was the worthy winner of the 2021 British Comedian of the Year. With his character of Racist Grandad\, he is now very much part of the comedy gentry and widely acknowledged as one of the UK’s top headline acts. \nJeff will be joined by three other great comedians\, only one of whom we’re scared of. We’ll leave it to you to guess which one.

SUMMARY:Petworth Fringe Music Night - David Ford + Annie Dressner
DESCRIPTION:17 MARCH 2022\n\n8.00pm – 10.30pm\nFor the first time in twenty years\, there is nobody trying to make David Ford famous. \nAfter a succession of record labels have marketed him as a pop star\, a protest singer\, an indie hipster\, a balladeer and a bluesman\, he feels much more at home operating on the fringes of the music business\, not trying to be famous\, not trying to get rich. It might be an unconventional way to conduct a musical career\, but David’s not a conventional guy. \n“Unmissable” – ★★★★★ The Guardian

SUMMARY:Petworth Fringe Music Night - Hattie Briggs + Sarah Dearlove
DESCRIPTION:3 MARCH 2022 \n8.00pm – 10.30pm \nHalf Me\, Half You” album launch \nHattie has played more sellout shows at the Petworth Fringe than any other artist\, and we are delighted to have her back to launch her new album\, Half Me Half You. If you’ve seen her on her other visits\, you’ll know what to expect – beautiful\, heart-rending songs\, and an intimate style of performing like being in Hattie’s living room. \nOriginally from Chichester\, Hattie Briggs was fortunate enough to be discovered by platinum-selling singer\, Alfie Boe\, who was stopped in his tracks by her pure vocal while she was busking at Paddington Station. She was personally invited by him to open all 21 shows on his recent UK tour\, the finale of which was at the Royal Albert Hall\, after which she and her band received a standing ovation. “I can honestly say it was the first time I had seen an audience stand and applaud a support act.” . To top things off\, Alfie welcomed Hattie back onto the stage each night during his set to perform a duet\, which went down a storm with audiences.

SUMMARY:Comedy Session hosted by Petworth Fringe
DESCRIPTION:20 JANUARY 2022 \n7.30pm – 10.30pm \nThe Comedy Sessions kick off with an extraordinary line-up: \nFiona Allen: leading performer and writer of the BAFTA Award winning Smack the Pony\, multiple TV comedy shows\, EastEnders\, Coronation St\, Waterloo Road now brings her comedy to the stand-up medium. \nNabil Abdulrashid: award winning stand-up Nabil has an edge that led to 3\,300 Ofcom complaints after he made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent 2020; none of the complaints were upheld. \nAndy Askins: (almost) fresh from his silver medal slot in the national British Comedian of the Year\, the FA Cup of Comedy. Andy is a diminutive figure who exudes an air of vulnerability as he steps up to the microphone armed with a guitar and a cheeky grin. It’s an overwhelmingly misleading demeanour which serves to heighten the impact of his killer lines. \nThe evening is MC’d by the heartwarming and hilarious Paul Revill. \n \n\n
