This is to reduce congestion so the visit is more enjoyable for all. \nThis Christmas\, wander through grand state rooms that invite stillness\, spark imagination\, and gently reconnect us with the quiet beauty of winter. \nA Christmas Enchantment draws from the landscape of Petworth’s park and gardens\, the artworks in the collection\, and the spirit of conservation. Each room glows with wonder: celestial skies\, roaming woodland creatures\, towering trees\, and spaces to pause and reflect. Mice scurry beneath gilded furniture\, foxes watch from shadowed corners\, and the stars themselves seem to whisper of returning light. \nOn Saturday 29 November and Saturday 20 December you can experience the festive atmosphere of Petworth House after dark\, with sparkling lights and a courtyard choir marking the turning of the season. A chance to enjoy the house’s winter transformation in a new light. The House will be open until 6.30pm (last entry at 6pm)\, with a choir performing at 5.30pm. \nOn Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November there will be a Christmas makers market in the Battery House and Exhibition Room selling festive gifts\, held in partnership with Petworth Pop-up. \n

Join experts and specialists including author Robyn Booth\, and Curator of Munstead Wood\, Caroline Ikin share tips on Spring gardening\, and discuss the ‘artist-gardener’ Gertrude Jekyll. DESCRIPTION: 22 June 2023 \n10.30am – 4.30pm \nExplore the breadth and variation of colour that can be extracted from plants using the traditional techniques to dye fabric samples in a one day workshop for beginners and those of limited experience. \nJoin local artist Amanda Duke where you will be dyeing a range of small samples of cotton\, silk and wool fabric and will learn how to modify to extend the colour range and shades. You will be working in a group to create dye baths and creating personal reference notes. \nAll the necessary dye stuffs and fabrics will be supplies\, as will course notes.
