SUMMARY:Gordon Rushmer A road well-travelled at Rountree Tryon Gallery
DESCRIPTION:22 SEPTEMBER – 8 OCTOBER 2022 \nMonday-Friday\, 10am-6pm \nSaturday\, 11am-4pm \nWe welcome Gordon Rushmer back for his fifth solo exhibition\, A road well-travelled. \nOver the last few years\, with restrictions to travel\, we all came to appreciate our own homes and the landscapes around us. As the UK opened up\, more and more people travelled around Britain rekindling their love of this sceptred isle. Gordon amongst them travelled the length and breadth of Britain soaking up the stunning scenery and daily life and transferring his passions to paper through his skilled use of watercolour and oil. His collection of paintings encapsulates this revival of our love affair with the British landscape and reflects Gordon’s own increasing obsession with early-20th century British watercolour.

SUMMARY:Gordon Rushmer\, A road well-travelled’ at Rountree Tryon Gallery
DESCRIPTION:20 SEPTEMBER – 8 OCTOBER 2022 \n10.00am – 6.00pm \nWe welcome Gordon Rushmer back for his fifth solo exhibition\, A road well-travelled. \nGordon is one of the few contemporary British watercolourists to have been included in Tate Britain’s much-vaunted exhibition ‘Watercolour’ in 2011. Earlier this year\, we launched Gordon’s new book ‘Pinching myself: an Artist at War’ which tells the fascinating story of Gordon’s time as a war artist based in Bosnia\, Kosovo\, Afghanistan\, Iraq and Eritrea from 1997 to 2007. The original artworks\, which depicted the harrowing scenes of war that he experienced as an official war artist\, have this year been taken into the collection of the Imperial War Museum. \nGordon will be in the gallery for the preview on Friday 23rd September from 5-7pm and again on Saturday 24th to talk us through his travels and inspirations. We look forward to welcoming you to view A road well-travelled.

SUMMARY:Gordon Rushmer at Rountree Tryon Gallery
DESCRIPTION:8 – 19 FEBRUARY 2022 \n10.00am – 6.00pm \nRenowned war artist launches new book with exhibition in Petworth gallery. \nArtist Gordon Rushmer who was born in Petersfield and still lives locally has written a book about his  years working as an official war artist for the British and Dutch Royal Marines and Special Forces. Fully illustrated with all his paintings from the many military engagements he accompanied abroad\, this book and the original artworks will be exhibited by Rountree Tryon Galleries in Petworth from 8th-19th February. \nGordon worked alongside elite military units in Bosnia\, Kosovo\, Afghanistan\, Iraq and Eritrea from 1997 to 2007 and has written a full account of his experiences\, to accompany the watercolour and oil paintings he produced in the field. \nGallery director Chantelle Rountree said\, “It continues to be our pleasure to represent Gordon’s work; these works are so important at helping us empathise and understand what war means to those who are part of it. It may come as a surprise to many of his collectors who are more familiar with his bucolic landscapes\, to encounter the harrowing realities of war and gain a rare and moving insight into Gordon’s ‘double life’. His work has contributed to the Nation’s major war art collections and should not be missed in this one-off exhibition.” \nRountree Tryon will also be holding his customary landscape exhibition in September\, entitled ‘A Road Well Travelled’ with works painted throughout Britain over the last two years. \nGORDON RUSHMER – An Artist at War exhibition and book signing will run at Rountree Tryon Galleries\, Petworth\, West Sussex GU28 0AH from 8th – 19th February. \nFurther details can be obtained from the gallery website \nwww.rountreetryon.com \ninfo@rountreetryon.com \nTel: 01798 344 207
