The Queen Mother’s Jewels

April 18, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm UTC+0

18 APRIL 2024

6.00pm – 8.00pm

The Queen Mother’s Jewellery by Jeremy Mainwaring -Burton LVO FGA is an amusing, skilfully illustrated talk by the late Queen Mother’s equerry in aid of local charity Sage House by Dementia Support.

Following his sell-out talk on the Castle of Mey, Jeremy returns to talk about the Queen Mother’s extraordinary jewellery collection.

Jeremy served as the Queen Mother’s equerry while in the army in the late 1970s. Being interested in stones and having a degree in geology he couldn’t help but notice the magnificent gems in the jewellery Her Majesty used to wear. In fact, if he admired a certain piece she would sometimes take it off and give it to him to have a closer look. This inspired him to study gemmology and when he left the army he qualified as a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. He then spent many years as a jewellery and precious stone dealer in London’s Hatton Garden.

Come and join us at Leconfield Village Hall, Market Square, Petworth for a wonderful evening that will be sure to entertain you and leave you with a sparkle in your eye, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine with an intimate talk followed by a Q&A.
