About the event:
Award-winning filmmaker Nick Willing presents a special screening of Paula Rego: Secrets & Stories at Newlands House Gallery, followed by a live Q&A.
Directed by Willing, who is also Paula Rego’s son, the documentary offers a rare and deeply personal portrait of one of Britain’s most influential artists. Through intimate conversations and previously unseen insights, the film explores Rego’s childhood under fascism in Portugal, her rise within a male-dominated art world, her experiences of depression, and the stories that inspired her extraordinary body of work.
Following the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to hear directly from Nick Willing as he reflects on his mother’s life, artistic legacy, and the making of this award-winning film.
Tickets include entry to the exhibition Paula Rego: Visions of English Literature at Newlands House Gallery.
About Nick Willing:
Nick Willing is an award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter and director whose work spans film, television and documentary. The son of artist Paula Rego and painter Victor Willing, he brings a uniquely personal perspective to Paula Rego: Secrets & Stories, drawing on decades of family life to create an intimate portrait of one of Britain’s most celebrated artists. Following the screening, Willing will join the audience for a live Q&A, sharing insights into the making of the film and his mother’s remarkable legacy.
