Join Dr Ian Goodall, for his fascinating talk about Alec Jeffreys and his great British invention of DNA fingerprinting. Alec invented the technique in the 1980s at Leicester University, which went on to revolutionise the way crimes were solved worldwide.
The talk describes the first case solved using DNA FINGERPRINTING, a double murder in a village near Leicester. It explains how the technique works and then describes how it has been used. Famous cases include THE KING IN THE CAR PARK, how the bones were proved to be King Richard III. It also explains how the remains of the last Russian Royal family were verified – using a DNA sample from Prince Philip. It finishes by explaining its use in family history, using examples from my own family tree. The talk is richly illustrated with colourful, easy-to-read, slides.
Dr Ian Goodall is a professional speaker who has raised thousands of pounds for local charities. He is the retired headteacher of a very large comprehensive school and has a passion for public speaking.
