Maritime at Rountree Tryon Gallery

This year’s maritime exhibition features works from the eighteenth through to the twentieth century. Artists include early masters of English maritime painting Peter Monamy (1681-1749) and Charles Brooking (1723-1759), Napoleonic Wars artists Thomas Whitcombe (1752-1824) and John Thomas Serres (1759-1825), and twentieth century painters Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971) and Charles Pears (1873-1958). Highlights include a fantastic view of nineteenth century Constantinople by John Lynn (active 1826-1869), a rare watercolour from an 1853 Arctic expedition by Edward Augustus Inglefield (1820-1894) and an impressionistic watercolour of yachts at Cowes by Paul Maze (1887-1979)
