Mid-Winter Festival at Langham Brewery
December 3, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm UTC+0

3 DECEMBER 2022
12.00pm – 3.00pm
Welcome, one and all, to the Langham Brewery Mid-Winter Festival.
Join the brewery (situated between Petworth & Midhurst in West Sussex) on Saturday 3rd December – from midday until 3pm – for their mid-winter festival, featuring a traditional mummers play, Morris dancing, shanty singing, live music and (of course) fabulous, award-winning beer.
It promises to be another wonderful event: Prize Old Mummers will offer a traditional mummers play with a modern twist; the Mary Rose and Royal George Dancers from Portsmouth will bring their unique and very entertaining Morris dance style to the event; live music is to be performed by the Plastic Shamrocks – playing uptempo and familiar Irish/English folky songs and some pop classics with a folky twist. Also enjoy traditional folk shanties from Spinnaker Shanty.
Wonderful, delicious, warming food (including veggie options) will be on offer via Simply Hog Roasts, and you’ll be more than welcome to purchase award-winning beers (and softs) from the fully-stocked bar.
The running order is as follows:
12pm Event Opens
12.30pm Morris Dancing from Mary Rose and Royal George
1.15pm Prize Old Mummers Play
2.00pm Shanty singing with Spinnaker Shanty Singers
2.30pm Plastic Shamrocks
3pm Close
Master of Ceremonies: Martyn Constable.
This event is free to enjoy, but please give generously to the chosen charity Naomi House Children’s Hospice.

Historically, mummers’ plays consisted of informal groups of costumed community members that visited from house to house on various holidays. Today the term refers especially to a play in which a number of characters are called on stage, two of whom engage in a combat, the loser being revived by a doctor character
