This summer, in collaboration with West Dean College, Petworth House will be hosting a series of courses inspired by our ‘Turner’s Vision at Petworth’ exhibition.

These courses will provide an introduction to a variety of mediums, from oil painting to watercolour and charcoal to felting. They will draw inspiration from Turner’s atmospheric paintings and provide a unique opportunity to learn and create in two historic locations.

‘Turner’s Vision at Petworth’ Exhibition at Petworth House

For the first time in 20 years, a specially curated selection of J.M.W. Turner’s artistic studies of Petworth will be exhibited in the very place that inspired him. These rarely seen works give a fascinating insight into Turner’s methods, and celebrate an extraordinary landscape seen through the eyes of Britain’s most renowned artist to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth.

Outdoor Theatre: ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at Petworth House

The HandleBards are bringing their bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ to the Pleasure Garden.Pedalling from venue to venue with all of their set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes, the HandleBards are a four-strong troupe of actors who are spending the summer bringing environmentally sustainable Shakespeare to venues across the UK.

Bonkers for Conkers 2025

Join our annual Conker Competition, where we’ll find the junior (8 to 15 years) and senior conker champions of 2025.

Birthday Bark At The Brewery Dog Show

Recent Acquisition Spring at Rountree Tryon Gallery

This exhibition combines recently acquired works from across the gallery’s specialisms. Highlights include a highly important full-length portrait by Francisco Michans Gargori (Spanish, 1777- after 1837) of a Spanish Court Aviary Keeper and tropical birds, thought to have been commissioned by Infante Francisco de Paula de Bourbon in around 1830; a fascinating view of Old London Bridge by John Cleveley (c.1712-1777), capturing the historic landmark shortly before work began to remove its buildings in 1757; a poignant pastel by Paul Maze (1887-1979), executed in 1917 during the artist’s time on the Western Front; and a beautiful watercolour of grouse by ornithological master Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935), which until recently has remained in a private collection since the 1930s. The exhibition also introduces work by wildlife photographer Harry Blakey and features contemporary bird and animal sculpture by Stephen HendersonHolly Hickmore and Jonathan Knight.
